Ilu Women’s Empowerment

The Mission: Design an online hub for a collaborative project that involves both an impact investment fund and an interactive toolkit for users

The Challenge

The Ilu Women’s Empowerment Program & Fund is a collaborative effort between Deetken Impact and Pro Mujer, and it seeks to promote  and further advance gender equality and gender smart business practices in Latin America and the Caribbean. The challenge was to create a dual-language website that would incorporate several interactive elements in the design of the program’s toolbox, which is the heart of the site, and is composed of a series of agenda items and excecutables that users can work-through and apply to their own business practices to further advance gender equality within their organizations.

My Approach

Tasked with creating a page for over 40 independent complex interactive exercises, and then duplicating it in Spanish, the goal was to make this as engaging and user-friendly and most importantly, as organized as possible. With hundreds of pages of documents and images, and video tutorials, I created an infrastructure that allowed users to first assess which gender lens their company may need to pay the most attention to, via a series of online “quizzes”, and then designed an infrastructure that acts as a series of steps through the program, each step bringing you closer to completion.

The Results

The Ilu Women’s Empowerment Fund – managed by Deetken Impact and the Ilu Women’s Empowerment Program – managed by Pro Mjujer, with funding provided in part by a grant from USAID, was a monumental web design & development project, that resulted in a user-friendly interactive online program that has encouraged businesses to become more gender aware and to take proactive steps to ensure equality within their organizations.

The Ilu Women’s Empowerment fund went from $0 to $35 million in investments in just 3 years after launch
